Length/Width Ratio

The length-to-width ratio of totally symmetrical diamond shapes, like round and princess, is 1:1 so there is little insight that is gained into the beauty of such diamonds by looking at this ratio. However, when looking at fancy shape diamonds which are longer in one dimension than the other, there is an overall pleasantness to the eye that results when fancy shape diamonds have a specified length-to-width ratio. Price discounts may be given for diamonds not meeting the most preferred dimensions. The preferred length-to-width ratio is always at the center of an acceptable range which is specific to the shape of the diamond, as follows:
